Perrysburg Rotary Weekly Meeting for February 16, 2024

Join us Friday, February 16, 2024 as we welcome guest speaker, Rotarian and City of Perrysburg Mayor, Tom Mackin.  Tom will be giving the State of Perrysburg Address.  We are excited to hear about all the projects and updates from the City!

"Mayor Tom Mackin grew up in Avon Lake, Ohio, the fifth of nine children. After graduating from Avon Lake High School, he attended Muskingum College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in accounting, with minors in economics and communication. He also met his wife, Allison, while in college.

The Mackin family moved to Perrysburg in 1990 and raised their two children, Pete and Margy, here. Mayor Mackin was an active dad, coaching numerous soccer, baseball, and basketball teams and also volunteering for his fair share of scouting and church programs. Both children graduated from Perrysburg High School.

Mayor Mackin began his second term in January of 2022. But he has been very involved in the Perrysburg community for many years. He became a member of Perrysburg's Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee in 1998 and was appointed to fill a vacant Perrysburg City Council seat that same year. He won his first election the following year and was re-elected to council four times. During his time on council, Mayor Mackin served on a number of council committees. He served on the Finance, Economic Development, Service-Safety, Health Sanitation, Public Utilities, and Planning and Zoning Committees.

Mayor Mackin chaired the Finance Committee the entire time he was on council. As chair of the Finance Committee, he reviewed and oversaw the City's budget. On the Service-Safety Committee, he worked with Perrysburg Police for more than nine (9) years to help ensure that their operations and policies best served the community and were consistent with the City's short and long-term needs.

While on council, Mayor Mackin also represented Perrysburg on the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Government (TMACOG), serving on its Executive Committee and Board of Trustees. He was elected Vice Chair in 2022.

In addition to involvement in City leadership, Mayor Mackin has worked with many other Perrysburg organizations. He was a member of Perrysburg Alternative to Substance Abuse and became its chairman in 2000. He also joined the Board of the Fort Meigs YMCA and in 2010 became its chairman and a member of the Toledo YMCA Board of Trustees. He is a member of and volunteers with the Perrysburg Rotary and Saint John XXIII. He also volunteers as a coach for the Perrysburg High School Boys' Basketball team.

Mayor Mackin is an honor graduate of The University of Toledo, College of Law. He was in private practice for twenty-five years, until 2015, when he joined the Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority as its Chief Legal Officer. He is a member of the Ohio, Toledo, and American Bar Associations. He was President of the Toledo Junior Bar Association in 2000. He also is a Co-Author with William M. Connelly, Esq., of Malpractice, Current Practice of Medicine, I:10:1 (1996)."  (Source)
