Perrysburg Rotary e-Bulletin for February 23, 2017
Today (2/23) is the 112th anniversary of Rotary International.  Started by Paul P. Harris in 1905, Rotary has grown to well over 33,000 clubs throughout the world.  Below are a few facts about the history of Rotary.
  • The name Rotary originated due to the fact that each meeting would rotate to different locations.
  • In 1910, Rotarians held their first convention in Chicago.  16 clubs gathered together and formed the National Association of Rotary Clubs.
  • However, in 1912, they decided to change the name to International Association of Rotary Clubs due the additions of clubs from other countries.  It wasn’t until 1922 that the name Rotary International was officially adopted.
  • Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor created the Four-Way Test in 1932.
  • In 1987 U.S. Supreme Court ruled that all male service organization must accept women as members.
  • Interact is Rotary International’s service club for students between the ages of 12 to 18.
  • Rotaract is a service club for young adults between the ages of 12 to 30.  Rotaract clubs are community or university based and sponsored by a Rotary Club.
  • Since the first project in 1979, Rotary and their partners have helped to reduce Polio by 99.9 percent of cases worldwide.
Clear your calendars because this Monday (2/27) is our monthly Rotary After Hours at El Vaquero!!  From 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm we will be gathering in the private room for food, fellowship, and fun.  To register yourself and a guest, click here.
Join us on Saturday, March 11th from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm for our first service project of the year!
We will be joining the City of Perrysburg to help "spring clean" the community.  This project will take place at Rotary Park in Perrysburg.  We are looking to have 20 plus volunteers to help rake and pick up debris at the park.  All are welcome to attend!
Please register here to volunteer!
***Another service project is currently being set up with Wood County Meals on Wheels.  This event will be an ongoing service project.  More information will be available soon.***
Brad Sander, VP at First Federal Bank and member of the Rotary Club of Oak Harbor, has been proposed for membership by Ken Robinson and approved by the Board of Directors.  Mr. Sander's proposed classification will be Banks – Commercial and Savings.  Barring an objection in writing from a member submitted to the club secretary by Friday, February 24th, Mr. Sander will be inducted into membership upon payment of dues and attendance at a new member orientation session.
Please continue to keep these members in your prayers:
