This weekend, I’ll be joining Jennifer Fehnrich, Alison Frye, Ken Robinson and Rick Thielen at our District Conference, The Safari Adventure at Kalahari Resort in Sandusky. We will celebrate our district’s accomplishments as we’ve all worked together to Light Up Rotary this year. I’m excited to report back to you next week about the experience. I’m especially proud to be able to contribute success stories like the one above at the Club Showcase.
Our club really has lit the flame of Rotary this year from our Rotary Day participation, Weekend of Service, an incredible Auction and projects like the ones we highlight this week. Thank you for your energy and commitment to serve and lead!
As many of you are aware, the Club is embarking upon a new milestone in its history with hiring a part-time paid Club Administrator. We are very excited to announce that Ms. Ashley Lopez has been offered the position and has accepted. This is an exciting time for our Club as we strive to do more service projects and have a greater impact in our local and international communities! Ms. Lopez will begin on or about April 20, 2015. Please help me thank the Search Committee for their efforts, which includes: Alison Frye (Club Secretary), Bruce Samuelson (1st Vice President), and Chet Welch (2nd Vice President).
As Club Administrator, Ms. Lopez will assist with general administrative duties to include: coordination of board meeting packets and materials, taking board meeting minutes, updating and maintaining district and club level databases (ClubRunner and DacDB), assisting with attendance reporting and tracking, assisting to help us achieve the Every Rotarian Every Year initiative, and coordinating RSVPs, venue, logistics, and details related to Club events beginning first with Charter Night.
Ms. Lopez brings more than 14 years of experience in the areas of administrative outreach, volunteerism, community service, relationship building and customer service. She has been with Adopt American Network located in Toledo, Ohio since 2005 where she served in several roles including development, fund raising and adoption services. She was directly involved in the creation of a new agency website, budgeting, recruiting and database management.
Ms. Lopez earned a Bachelor of Science in Child & Family Community Services from BGSU. She is a current member of the Society of Young Professionals in Maumee, OH and volunteers with the Kids Cancer Crusade of Northwest Ohio.
Ms. Lopez is a native of Fremont, Ohio and currently resides in Perrysburg with her husband and two children.

On Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Gateway Middle School in Maumee, Ohio, Perrysburg Rotary and the Perrysburg High School Interact Club joined with other Interactors and Rotarians to help erase hunger in one part of the world in an event called #MealsThatMatter15. Student organizations from four area high schools have raised over $10,000 to build 40,000 shelf-stable meals through ISOH Impact’s Kids Against Hunger program. The meals built by students that day have been sent to refugee camps outside Israel threatened by ISIS.
The meal-building initiative has been a collaborative effort between Anthony Wayne, Maumee and Perrysburg Interact Clubs and Eastwood and Perrysburg Key Clubs. Leaders from Interact and Key Club have been meeting regularly to organize the fundraising efforts as well as the logistics for the meal build.
Perrysburg student Lauren Piezer said, “As high school students, the biggest misconception is that we are only the future. We aren’t waiting for the future to make a difference. We are here now and we’re ready to do big things.”
Anthony Wayne Interact advisor and District Governor Nominee Designate Deb Cheney has been meeting with these student leaders and said, “It’s inspiring to see how much can be accomplished by a motivated group of teenagers. These students have worked tirelessly to break down school barriers and organization barriers in the name of making a difference in our world.”
Hallie Nagel was the Rotarian leader for this event and worked with Prak Naik, Pat Amico, Kerri Adams, Greg Archambeau, and Julie Roberts along with their spouses and children and nearly a dozen PHS students on this build. Rotary International President Gary Huang said it pretty succinctly. “It’s simple. The more members we have, the more people we can help. A stronger membership base will result in stronger communities.”
On May 22, our regular luncheon meeting is dedicated to prospective members. We want to fill the Carranor with your friends and colleagues to show them the fellowship we enjoy and the opportunities to serve with us as Rotarians. We will follow up with every guest who attends this meeting to talk about Rotary and how they can get involved to serve alongside us.

We want just want people to see one of our great Friday meetings, enjoy time with some new people, learn a little about what we do and open the door to a conversation about how new people can join our leaders, exchange ideas, and take action to make Perrysburg and our larger communities stronger and more vibrant.
