We are in the home stretch; our 32 nd Annual Charity Auction is this Saturday, February 6 th. Our wonderful Auction Committee has been hard at work and their efforts are greatly appreciated. As the final plans for the event are coming together, we ask that all members take a moment and make their reservations for the auction (if you haven’t already done so)! A direct link to the online reservation can be found here. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Rick Thielen.
Since we are on the topic of the auction, we want to remind everyone that we will be taking Rotary on the Road for the next two weeks. Our weekly meeting, for Friday, February 5 th, will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn. The meeting will be an Auction Preview and an opportunity to get a update on the event. If you have a little time to spare before the the meeting, consider stopping by Bruce Samuelson’s house to help pack up and transport auction items to the hall! For more information on helping to pick up and transport items, contact Ashley Lopez.
While the excitement of the Annual Auction approaches, it is important to take a step back and recall the events of our last weekly meeting. On Friday, January 29 th, we welcomed a couple guests from Bittersweet Farms, a wonderful non-profit in Whitehouse, Ohio. Executive Director Vicki Obee and Resident Mike graciously accepted a grant donation from the club of $2,500.00. The grant will be used to purchase a zero turn mower and Mike will be the proud operator of that mower. Mike was overjoyed and grateful for our generous grant and cannot wait to drive the mower.
Our Fine Master for the week was Matt Skotynsky. Matt is the owner of Skotynsky Finacial Group in Perrysburg, Ohio. As luck would have it, Matt was scheduled to give his Fine Master duties the same week as Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn was scheduled to speak to the club. Matt, thanks to the help of the Jenna Wasylyshyn, gave us a very informative and humorous quiz about the Sheriff. Not only did we receive a great deal of information about him but we also received a sample of his favorite drink, Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi.
After Matt’s quiz/introduction for Sheriff Wasylyshyn, we listened to a presentation on the Heroin Epidemic in Wood County. Sheriff Wasylyshyn provided some startling statistics on the epidemic and answered several of our questions. In addition to the presentation, we were also provided forms to sign up for free email notifications from the Sheriff's office. Those who register their email will receive an email notification when a sex offender registers with the Wood County Sheriff's Office. If you would like to fill out a form, we will have extras at the Sergeant at Arms table.
As we finished up our meeting, we were reminded that we will be taking Rotary on the Road for the next two weeks. As previously mentioned, we will be gathering for our weekly meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn on February 5 th. The following week, February 12 th, we will be meeting at the Way Public Library and our guest speaker will be Janel Hass.
As always have a great week and see you at Rotary!
