Meeting News 1.9.15

Welcome to the second half of our Rotary Year!

 

Certainly the tone of Friday's meeting will be quite different for each of us as we mourn the loss of our dear friend, Past President Steve Hopkins.  Steve's sudden death is a devastating personal loss.  We will mark Steve's presence with us at the meeting on Friday.  I think it is worth noting that the picture of Steve posted on our club's Facebook page earlier this week has already surpassed 1,600 people reached.  Clearly he was as loved outside of Rotary as he was in Rotary.  As of this writing, funeral arrangements for Steve are not yet finalized but we expect that they will occur late next week.  As soon as we have that information available, we will share it with you via email and social media.  In the meantime, please keep Jane Hopkins and her children and grandchildren in your thoughts and prayers.

 

Our program on Friday will be a STRIVE Update from Walt Celley and Ron Matter.  STRIVE is illustrative of how one Rotarian's passion can transform a club and its service.  For more than ten years, STRIVE has been connecting Rotarians to at-risk students at Penta Career Center.  We witness moving transformations among our student participants each year and Rotarian mentors inevitably reflect on how fulfilling the experience is for them, too.  Join us to learn more about this year's program, its students, and how you might become involved.
