There’s a new sheriff in town…
Well, not really but we are thrilled to hear from Wood County Sheriff and Perrysburg Rotarian Mark Wasylyshyn. It’s always a fascinating program when we hear from the Sheriff and tomorrow will likely be no exception.
Since 2005, Sheriff Wasylyshyn has served as the chief law enforcement official in Wood County and as such is responsible for the 149 bed county jail, 9-1-1 Dispatch Center, Special Response Team, Road Patrol, Detective Bureau, Sheriff Sales, registering and monitoring sex offenders, issuing carry concealed weapons permits, and paper service for the Common Pleas Courts. He supervises a staff of 120 full-time deputies and is assisted by an auxiliary of fifty five members who volunteer their time.
Sheriff Wasylyshyn serves on the board of directors of the National Sheriffs’ Association, chairs its Crime Prevention/Private Security Committee and serves on several of its national committees. He also represents the National Sheriffs’ Association on the Criminal Intelligence Coordinating Council. Wasylyshyn is the Third Vice President of the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association and serves on several of its state committees. He is on the alumni board of Owens Community College, the Ohio Attorney General’s Drug Education Policy Advisory Board, Law Enforcement Liaison Council, Huntington Bank Scholarship Committee, and Perrysburg Schools Safety Committee.
Mark Wasylyshyn is a life-long resident of Wood County. He is a life member of Saint Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church. He graduated from Rossford High School in 1979 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hillsdale College in 1983. He is also a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College and the National Sheriff’s Institute. Wasylyshyn is an active member of Rotary, and numerous committees for his children’s school. He and his wife, Jenna, are the proud parents of twins, James and Catherine, born in 1999. The Wasylyshyn family resides on their farm in Webster Township.
In addition to our speaker, we have some updates on the River Run 5K (officially less than one month away) and an announcement about a NEW Rotary program we are launching for youth. Most of all, Friday’s are about fellowship and connecting with other Rotarians. Hope to see you there!
