During the hustle of the holiday season, Rotary reminds us to pause, reflect, and remember what truly matters.

Each year, one of our most meaningful traditions is the reading of “One Solitary Life”, written by Dr James Allen Francis, shared this season by Rotarian Phil Bollin.

For many years, this moment was lovingly led by our dear friend and Rotarian John Kurfess, whose steady voice and thoughtful presence made this reading a quiet anchor for our club during this time of year. We miss John dearly, especially during this season when his words and spirit feel so close.

One Solitary Life tells the story of a man who lived humbly, without title, position, wealth, or recognition. He came from simple beginnings, lived quietly, owned little, and sought no power. Yet through compassion, conviction, and service to others, his life changed the course of history. It reminds us that greatness is not measured by status, credentials, or influence, but by the impact one life can have on the world.

As we move through this season, may we remember that meaningful change often begins in quiet ways. In how we treat others. In how we serve. In how we show up with integrity and kindness. John understood this deeply, and his legacy continues to guide us.

Wishing our Rotary family and community a season filled with reflection, gratitude, and goodwill.
