Welcome to March and Literacy Month in Rotary!
This is a great time to announce to you that our club has received a $3,000 grant from Rotary District 6600 for our Perrysburg Rotary Learning Day by Day Program for local elementary students. Many thanks to Chris Vogel, our resident district grant wizard, for making that happen for us. It’s important to note that the money available to Rotary Districts to give through what are called “District Designated Funds” are directly related to the amount of money a district raises for the Annual Program Fund at The Rotary Foundation. We think of this as “Paul Harris” money. As a district, we receive back 50% of our contributions three Rotary years ago – when Julie Roberts was club president. The more we give, the more our district is able to give back to projects that we propose.
Part of our ability to participate in the District Grants hinges on our sending two club members to the District Grants Management Seminar each year. This year’s seminar is on March 28 at Kalahari Resort in Sandusky. If you would like to attend, let me know and register on the District 6600 website by clicking HERE.
Don’t forget to read on in the bulletin about the District Conference scholarships we are offering. So far, Jennifer Fehnrich, Alison Frye, Ken Robinson and Rick Thielen are joining me at the conference. We have $200 scholarships for nine more Rotarians to attend with us at Kalahari and we’d love to increase our presence there. Our club is sponsoring the Kids Against Hunger youth and adult service project on Saturday morning – come see what it’s all about!
Our speaker this week is Richard St. Jean, brought to us through the good graces of Rob Fox. Richard is the General Manager of Hollywood Casino. He will talk about the Casino’s economic impact on the area and on their charitable giving and volunteerism. Maybe we’ll ask him to help Pat Amico with the raffle this week!
