The River Run committee and club board were excited about the natural tie to running when they selected Girls on the Run (GOTR) as one of the outside beneficiaries for the River Run 5K. As we learn more about the details of what participants gain from being part of GOTR, we are even more pumped up about Perrysburg Rotary’s connection with the organization. Held in every elementary school in Perrysburg on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, girls not only run and train for a 5K, they also learn about decision making, coping and self-confidence. The program is $150 and while scholarships are available, no one gets a 100% scholarship ensuring the families that participate have skin in the game.

Afterschool today, 3-5th grade girls across Perrysburg will be completing Lesson 2 of the Girls on the Run curriculum before they go for a run. This lesson is outlined and communicated with parents for follow up discussion. Here’s what today’s lesson is all about:

Lesson 2: Plugging into the Girls on the Run cord
In today's lesson, the girls are learning about the concept of visualization - imaging something in their minds. The coaches lead them through a visualization the reinforces the difference between negative and positive thinking. The group is also continuing to build relationships and further establish trust with one another.

Questions and Conversation Starters:
1. What is visualization? Try to describe the Girls on the Run visualization that your coach did today?
2. What is the glittery Girls on the Run cord?
3. How do we feel when we plug into messages that celebrate who we are?
4. Is it our choice to plug into the positive or negative cord?
5. Did you learn a new energy award today? Would you be willing to show me that award or make up on of your own?

Here’s what one girl had to say about her experience:
